GBA Continues to Advocate for Appropriate Environmental Assessments for Open Net Pen Aquaculture on the Bay
The Ontario government continues to assign new cage aquaculture license applications or renewals to the lowest EA category, which means that there is little or no environmental impact from these aquaculture operations and minimal public interest. Neither of which is correct.
GBA continues to urge the government to assign the appropriate EA category designation to the cage aquaculture industry to ensure proper oversight due to the long-standing public concern about the possible long-term and cumulative impacts to the aquatic environment over time.
