Canada to Allow Fully Vaccinated Americans to Cross the Border on August 9th

The Canadian-US border will remain closed to non-essential travel until August 9, 2021 at which time fully vaccinated US citizens and permanent residents will be allowed to enter Canada. Non-essential travellers from other countries will be allowed access beginning September 7.

Like the rules announced earlier this month for fully vaccinated Canadian travellers, fully vaccinated US citizens will not need to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. Canada will also drop the requirement for hotel quarantine in government authorized hotels as of August 9. Fully vaccinated travellers will not need to be tested upon arrival unless they are otherwise randomly selected for testing at a border crossing.

Travellers will need a suitable quarantine plan in case it is required, as well as proof of a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of arrival.

Unvaccinated children under the age of 12 accompanied by vaccinated parents will not need to quarantine for 14 days, but will still need to undergo testing on day one and day 8 – more details will be available on this in the next few days.

The Canadian-US border has been closed to non-essential travel since March of 2020.

Details on what American travellers need to do to cross the border can be found here.
