Congratulations to Mark Fisher, First President of Canada Water Agency

The Government of Canada has appointed Mark Fisher as the President of the Canada Water Agency. This new agency, launched last fall under the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (ECCC), is dedicated to protecting freshwater resources and enhancing freshwater management across the country. The agency will work collaboratively with provinces, territories, Indigenous peoples, and other stakeholders to address pressing water challenges, including climate change, flooding, and water quality.

Mark Fisher brings extensive experience in addressing national and regional freshwater management challenges to his new role. As the former President and CEO of the Council of the Great Lakes Region, he has a proven track record of fostering partnerships and regional collaborations among the Great Lakes states and provinces. His expertise will be invaluable in advancing the Canada Water Agency’s objectives, which includes:
  • Enhancing water management and governance across federal departments and agencies
  • Supporting climate resilience and adaptation
  • Protecting and promoting water quality
  • Fostering collaborative decision-making and partnerships among Indigenous partners, provinces, territories, municipalities, and private sector partners
GBA congratulates Mark Fisher on his appointment and we look forward to working with the Canada Water Agency to protect and preserve the health of Georgian Bay and its watershed.
