Bill C-68 – Fisheries Act Amendments – Update by Robert Moos, GBA Director, Blackstone Lake
Bill C-68 – Fisheries Act Amendments – has been drafted and the First Reading referred to the standing committee on Fisheries and Oceans. GBA is in the process of reviewing this welcome piece of legislation, which will strengthen the Fisheries Act and is generally beneficial to the protection of fish habitat etc. in Georgian Bay. We intend to make a submission to the federal government in support of this legislation but, at the same time, ask Fisheries and Oceans to ensure that their regulations are properly enforced in the Great Lakes, rather than delegating enforcement to the Provincial Ministries.
