Fire Extinguishers: Important Recall Information

Attention Boaters and Cottagers! In case you didn’t know…

The Globe & Mail reported in November 2017 the Canadian government expanded a recall of Kidde and Garrison brand fire extinguishers to cover some 2.7 million devices because they can get clogged or require excessive force to discharge and wont work in an emergency. 134 models of Kidde fire extinguishers which were manufactured between Jan 1, 1973 and Aug 15, 2017 are being recalled. The recall covers fire extinguishers with plastic handles and plastic push pindicators.

Please check your boats and homes to see if you have any Kidde fire extinguishers.

You should contact Kidde about the recall. You can go to their website at www.kidde.com and click on product safety recalls or call 1-855-271-0773 or 1-855-233-2882

Kidde is voluntarily recalling the extinguishers and the website will provide you the information needed to process a request for a free replacement. You will need to locate and collect your model number, serial number, and date code ( if applicable ) . The date code is a 10 digit number printed on the side of your fire extinguisher, near the bottom. Digits 5 through 9 represent the day and year of manufacture, and these five numbers will be what you need to proceed.

Its best to have the extinguisher with you when you call.
