Flood Risk Mapping and Insurance Availability Need an Upgrade
Increased variability of Georgian Bay water levels could leave more and more homes vulnerable to flooding as climate change impacts escalate. There is a need to bring flood plain mapping up-to-date and consider a Canada-wide solution to the availability of flood risk insurance.
A CBC Marketplace investigation examined the issues around fuzzy real estate rules, incomplete floodplain maps and an insurance industry pulling back from high-risk areas. Featured in this article is Cheryl Evans who spoke at our 2021 H2O webinar in December. Read more about the issues with flood risk insurance here and watch the Marketplace investigation here.
