Great Lakes Fishery Commission Issues a Warning on Sea Lamprey Numbers

For the last 60 years around 90% of sea lampreys in the Great Lakes basin have been culled every year to keep their numbers under control. Due to their prolific capacity to breed, this has kept the population more or less stable and minimized the impact on wild fish (sea lampreys latch on to fish, bore into them and then slowly eat them). During COVID culling activities were severely cut back and there could be a significant increase in these vampire-like creatures in the basin.
