Mary Simon Sworn In as Canada's First Indigenous Governor-General

On July 26 Mary Simon, an Inuk from northeastern Quebec, was sworn in as Canada’s 30th Governor General. She is the first Indigenous person ever to hold the position.

This inaugural speech by Mary Simon strongly reflects many of our GBA values. We have high hopes that Mary Simon will move all of us closer to true reconciliation, understanding, mutual respect and friendship in these troubled times. Read the speech here or watch her speech below:
