New Ontario 2019 Fishing Regulations

Georgian Bay and the North Channel of Lake Huron including the rivers and countless streams running into these waters offer some of the best fishing opportunities in Canada.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry manage these precious resources and each year provides a guide of up-to-date fishing regulations for 20 Fisheries Management Zones in Ontario. You can download a copy of these regulations by going to  www.ontario.ca/document/ontario-fishing-regulations-summary.

The Georgian Bay and North Channel map and summary, identified as Management Zone 14, offers a detailed listing of local fishing regulations, seasonal restrictions, locations of fish sanctuaries and includes fish and size limits for popular fish species.

This easy-to-use guide also includes information on applying for an Ontario Fishing Licence by calling Ontario’s new Fish and Wildlife Licensing Service at 1-800-288-1155; catching and reporting a tagged fish by emailing  mnr.nric.mnr@ontario.ca; reporting sightings of invasive species 1-800-563-7711; and learning about Lyme disease at www.ontario.ca/lyme

By following the regulations in the guide, reporting any sightings of invasive species and being aware of any actions that might be harmful to fish, we can do our part to ensure that Georgian Bay and the North Channel’s recreational fisheries remain healthy and sustainable.
