Ontario Property Just Became More Expensive for Non-Canadians to Buy
Buying property in Georgian Bay has just become more expensive for those who are not Canadian. As part of the Ford government’s action plan on housing, the foreign homebuyer tax for purchases of Ontario property by non-residents has been increased to 20% and now applies across the entire province. The tax originally was introduced in 2017 to curb real estate speculation in the densely populated Golden Horseshoe region in Southern Ontario.
