OPP Are on Patrol - Don't Get Caught Without the Proper Equipment
OPP Marine Patrol has been out on the water over the last few weeks and so far it’s been a busy July. Over the Canada Day weekend in southern Georgian Bay 66 vessels were checked on routine patrol for equipment compliance and operator sobriety with the following results:
- 4 vessel operators failed to have sufficient life jackets for those aboard
- 1 operator was charged with a liquor license offence
- 2 operators failed to have Pleasure Craft Operator cards
- 1 operator was charged with failing to have a spotter in their vessel while towing another person
- 15 other operators were given warnings relating to the lack of essential safety equipment on the vessel
Over the last week 73 vessel checks resulted in the following:
- 3 vessel operators failed to have sufficient life jackets for those aboard
- 1 operator was charged with a liquor license offence
- 1 operator failed to have a Pleasure Craft Operator card
- 1 operator was charged with failing to have a spotter in their vessel while towing another person
- 16 operators were given warnings relating to the lack of essential safety equipment on the vessel
Don’t get caught without the proper equipment. Fines for the offences above start at $250 and can climb steeply depending on the situation.
