Shoreline Conditions Statement issued for Georgian Bay

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) has issued a Shoreline Conditions Statement for Water Safety in the Parry Sound District after the previous Watershed Conditions Statement from June expired. The Shoreline Conditions Statement indicates that the current high water levels along the Georgian Bay shoreline have the potential to become dangerous, but flooding is not expected.

MNRF advises that residents should keep a close watch on conditions and exercise caution around the shoreline as any storm surge and waves may worsen conditions. Risks include shoreline flooding, beach submersion, crawl space and septic system inundation, and wave-driven erosion along some areas of shoreline.

The statement also advises that residents may wish to take action to ensure sump pumps are working properly and to secure or protect property in vulnerable or flood-prone areas. Banks and shorelines may be slippery and unstable, so caution should be exercised along the shores.

This statement remains in effect until Friday, August 14, 2020 and more information can be found here.
