Update on the Progress of Our Floating Homes Not Vessels Coalition
What started out as a small group now includes representatives from Muskoka Lakes Cottage Association, Kawartha Lakes Cottage Association, Six Mile Lake Association, Gloucester Pool Cottage Association, all of the municipalities along the east coast of Georgian Bay, municipalities along the Trent-Severn waterway, FOCA and GBA. The objective of the coalition is to have the vessel designation changed for floating homes so they can be regulated with proper building standards and appropriate safety and environmental regulations.
This collective has been working hard over the last three months to plan and execute a two-pronged strategy. Phase one was a huge success, resulting in more than 700 letters sent to the Minister of Transport and the collection of more than 2,000 signatures on petitions. Phase two is set to begin in the fall and winter of 2023/2024.
Below is a summary of our accomplishments in Phase 1 and plans for Phase 2.

The second phase of the coalition’s strategy is set to begin this fall
