US Shutdown affecting Great Lakes protection programs

Indicative of the chaos being caused by the shutdown, the Great Lakes Executive Committee (which is the international body that operates the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement) was unable to complete it’s December meeting, which GBA attended – it was cancelled half way through. The scheduled webinar to complete it is now also cancelled – see email quote below just received, which is a worrying example of what is happening on the US side of the Great Lakes:
The January 17th GLEC call has been cancelled because: “due to the continuation of the partial U.S. government shutdown and the uncertainty regarding its duration, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and many other U.S. federal agencies may not be able to participate….”
